Fort Collins Police Services has selected TRACView Accident Report System to serve as its traffic accident insurance and citizen request technology that now places traffic accident reports on-line. This service is now available for use.
TRACView is an Internet based application developed to help law enforcement agencies and insurance companies manage and access traffic accident reports. Through the use of cutting edge on-line document management technology, citizens are now able to rapidly find and view an accident report, usually within 24 hours of being scanned. No more waiting in line or mailing report request forms. Citizens can now access reports over the Internet, 24 hours a day!
Like most law enforcement agencies, Fort Collins Police Services has been pursuing an alternative to the hardcopy reporting, storing, and servicing of report requests and concluded the TRACView system was the most suitable and secure solution as a local accident repository for insurance and citizen report requests. The system is designed to:
- allow for multi-jurisdictional data sharing and searching;
- facilitate web accessible availability of accident reports for insurance companies, officers and citizens;
- remove Police Services from the billing and request fulfillment process; and
- provide officers and investigators access to accident information for all agencies on the system.
Fort Collins Police Services processes over 4,000 traffic accidents annually. Normally, each accident report contains two drivers; meaning over 8,000 individuals and/or insurance companies could potentially request copies of reports. Police Services expects Internet viewing and printing will significantly reduce the time spent interacting with insurance agencies and citizens seeking copies of traffic crashes.
This new on-line method provides an alternative and more convenient method for obtaining needed information. Through TRACView:
- reports are online and accessible from anywhere via the Internet;
- reports are converted to PDF format making them easy to view, save, print and e-mail;
- finding a report takes only a few seconds;
- you can search by driver's name, accident date and location, license numbers and report number;
- reports are accessible usually within 24 hours of being scanned, excluding holidays and weekends;
- reports cannot be modified, maintaining report integrity; and
- clear, high resolution images of each report for optimal viewing and printing.
TRACView charges $5.00 more for this level of convenience, than would normally be paid at the police station. Citizens may continue to request copies of traffic accident reports by visiting the Fort Collins Police Services Records Division at 300 Laporte Avenue.
